Case Study - Telco Operation System
Scope of Work : Development of a server side platform for data traffic usage collection from service control switches for a leading DPI vendor..

System Overview : The system is based on Java/J2EE based architecture. A usage data-ready notification is received over LDAP from IPSC switches. Usage files are downloaded over FTP from IPSC switches. Usage data is parsed and stored in staging tables. EJB API is provided for registration of third-party Accounting Servers. Accounting Server is notified over SOAP/XML using well-known WSDL specification. Accounting Parameters are configurable through JMX-Console. EJB API are provided for third-party Accounting Servers to extract the usage data from staging tables.

Operation Support System

Configuration Support for Traffic Accounting Packages (TAPs)

This module enables operators to define Traffic Accounting Packages (TAPs) which are subsequently referenced by third-party accounting servers. Main features of this module are:

  • Java Swing User Interface provided to operators to define TAPs and associate them with specific service bundles assigned to subscribers.
  • The defined TAPs and their associations are passed on to the IPSC switch over LDAP messaging.
  • The TAPs are sent to third-party Accounting Servers over SOAP/XML messaging.
  • Switch notifications related to these TAPs are passed on to the Accounting Servers over SOAP/XML messaging

Interfacing with Usage Quota Management Solution (UQMS)This module provides mechanism by which external UQMS can assign quotas to individual subscribers as well as receive notifications related to quota breaches and update notifications. Main features of this module are :

  • EJB API provided for external UQMS to assign usage quota values at the subscriber level and service bundle level.
  • EJB API provided for external UQMS to request quota update notifications for specific subscribers.
  • Quota values and quota update notification requests passed on to the IPSC switch over HTTP.
  • Quota update and quota breach notifications received from IPSC switch over LDAP messaging.
  • Quota Update and breach notifications passed on to the UQMS over SOAP/XML (using well-known WSDL specification).

Platforms and Tools :

  • Java 5, JBoss 4.0, Apache Axis
  • Win2k/XP, Red-Hat Linux, Solaris
  • HTTP, XML, SOAP, OpenLDAP
