Multimedia Semi-conductor

With the growth of Consumer Electronics devices the electronics market is exploding and with semiconductor consumption booming worldwide, the tremendous opportunity for semiconductor companies also brings with it the increasing pressure to keep pace with the shortening development cycles and the need for newer and more innovative products. However not all the products that hit the market are successful since the consumer today is extremely particular about price and performance leaving semiconductor companies to grapple with the triple challenges of increasing complexity, shorter timelines and increasing risk.

The Semiconductor Group at Rebaca has developed the requisite skill sets and industry specific solutions and today provides complete Product Development Solutions meeting critical time-to-market demands of customers.

The offerings include:

Device Drivers Development

Rebaca has extensive experience working with device drivers. Starting from the UNIX System V, Rebaca has worked on most of the host operating systems for desktops and servers and embedded drivers for plethora of RTOS. Rebaca also brings to fore a strong BSP porting related expertise as well.

Host Drivers:
Rebaca has worked on following operating environments on the host side

  • Linux 2.4.x, 2.6.x - Enterprise / Carrier Grade / SMP Server - 32 and 64 bit
  • MS Windows - 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista; NDIS, WDM, WDF / KMDF - 32 and 64 bit
  • Macintosh - OS X 10.x
  • UNIX Variants - Solaris, HP-UX, BSD

Rebaca not only develops, ports, or maintains device drivers for its customers, but also brings a value though it's rich experience in optimization, performance tuning and certification such as WHQL for Windows

Rebaca has worked on drivers for various host bus and IO interconnect standards like:

  • PCI
  • USB
  • Bluetooth
  • IEEE1394
  • PCMCIA
  • SDIO
  • Ethernet / Fast Ethernet / Gigabit Ethernet
  • IEEE802.11a / b / g

Rebaca has developed drivers for various peripherals and devices such as :

Communications:

  • E1/T1
  • I2C
  • PCI bridge
  • Host to PCI bridge
  • USB (host and client)
  • Ethernet controller
  • HDLC
  • GSM/CDMA module interface
  • SPI

Multimedia:

  • Mini driver & WDM driver for video streaming
  • Tuner driver
  • Audio (.wav, mp3, et al.)
  • Media-Q
  • Video frame buffer drivers

Storage:

  • Compact Flash
  • EEPROM
  • Flash driver
  • FPGA
  • HDD
  • Memory controller for RAM access
  • NAND & NOR Flash
  • ROM interface
  • SD & MMC card drivers

Graphics and Display:

  • Character & graphics LCD & LED displays.
  • MAUI compliant graphics driver
  • Video capture, overlay & alpha blending

Embedded Drivers:
Rebaca has deep and thorough knowledge base on developing, porting drivers for

  • Embedded Linux ( RT-Linux, MontaVista)
  • VxWorks / pSOS
  • WinCE
  • Symbian
  • Nucleus
  • Proprietary Schedulers / RTOS

Rebaca has developed / ported these drivers on processors such as ARM, MIPS, XScale, PowerPC, etc. Peripherals for which these drivers were worked on are UART, USB, 1394, Ethernet, WLAN, NAND / NOR, Touchpad, LCD etc.

Middleware Porting

Rebaca has expertise in porting different middleware in SoC platforms including DVB, IPTV Middleware, MHEG etc. Porting of such middleware requires development of Hardware Abstraction Layer which will have several Interface Functions for each module in the Middleware to access the underlying hardware and drivers like Video, Demux, Audio, Flash, IR etc. All such ported modules need to go Unit testing and once the application is integrated it needs to go through complete system testing.

As far as Middleware porting is concerned Rebaca has experience in the following SoC platforms.

    • BCM7312/BCM7313
    • BCM7454
    • BCM7309
    • NEC EMMA2
    • NEC EMMA3
    • Sigma SMP8634
    • Magnum MS6400
    • ViXS 3290

Tool Chain and Simulator

Rebaca has expertise in developing custom tool chains, IDEs and Simulators for Complex Proprietary chips having multiple processors with code written in High-level & assembly languages. We have the experience in developing IDE features using Eclipse plug-in framework for the following

  • Project creation wizard & file containers
  • Full featured text editor
  • Compiler preferences
  • Execution environment preferences
  • Debugger

We have also developed Simulator and Debugger for a multi-core chip with proprietary instruction sets for assembly level language.

  • Tool to debug audio/video codec algorithm written in assembly level language
  • Simulation of Assembly level instruction set for different Processing elements, Program Memory, Data Memory and Macro Block buffer
  • Simulator provides flexibility to debug code, set and display Program Counter, Local / Global Registers, Data Memory, Flags, Program Memory etc.
