Verification & Compliance testing of VLSIs

Verification & Compliance testing of VLSIs for Set Top Box application

Rebaca has been involved in certification testing of VLSIs for Digital Set Top box application and Digital TV application. The test code has been developed in C and resides in the target. The test code access HAL for accessing the device registers. The Host software calls the test functions via test scripts. The target software executes the function and return back the response to the Host over the Host – Target communication link. The host software maintains test logs in log files. The modules verified are as follows:

  • Verification and Validation of different modules of a system-on-chip like:
     - Graphics, Demux, Decoder, 1284, Smart Card, BIU, USB, 1394, UART, I2C – Master & Slave, SPI, Timer, IR, GPIO, Digital Front end, Section Filtering block, SPARC etc.
     
  • Verification and Validation of various personality modules for proper bus interface and its timing issues. The personalities include - PCI, SH4 Processor, Coldfire Processor, Motorola 68K Processor, etc.
     
  • Verification and Validation of modules like - Bus Arbitrator, SDRAM cycle, Personality Interleaving
     
  • Compliance suite testing for various modules like - 1284, 1394, USB, Smart card etc.

Verification of VLSIs for Media application
Rebaca has been involved in testing of VLSIs for Media application. The VLSI is simulated on a FPGA. The test code and a layer of low level APIs is developed in C for the targeted functional module of the VLSI. This is then downloaded to the target. The tests are invoked through function entry points accessible from the console port of the debugger and the responses are also obtained through the same port. The modules verified are as follows:

  • Digital Video Interface module - a unified interface module to connect DTV, TFT, CSTN
  • JPEG decode engine
  • NAND flash controller
